Estimated Cost

Breakdown of Rates and Hours Needed to become a Private Pilot

You pay as you fly and after each flight, we bill your card on file.

Everyone’s completion time is different and mostly depends on the individual’s study time and times per week flying. If you fly more often, you pick it up faster and typically save money in the long run. We recommend 2-3 times per week if possible.

FAA’s minimum flight time required for Private Pilot Cert is 40hrs. 30 of those 40 hours have to be with an instructor. You'll also have an estimated 30 hours pre/post flight and additional ground instruction. Therefore your minimum estimate is:

$5600 for aircraft rental

$800 Temporary Fuel Surcharge
$2500 for instruction estimated 50 hours
$700 for practical test
$175 for knowledge test
$275 for books and equipment.
Estimated total= $10,050

Not everyone completes this license in the minimum required hours.  The national average is 67 hours.  Therefore, the average estimate is:

$9320 for aircraft rental

$1340 Temporary Fuel Surcharge
$3750 for instruction estimated 75 hours
$700 for practical test
$175 for knowledge test
$275 for books and equipment.
Estimated total=  $15,560
